Chillington Country and Food Fair - 18th July 2010

This weekend had all manner of events crammed into it: Taste of Birmingham in Brum, the Brewood Music Festival, a beer festival in the neighbouring village, and a country and food fair at Chillington Hall. We went to the country and food fair, though it was disappointing as a reflection of Staffordshire food and drink.

Around 50 stalls in total, but that included half a dozen fairground rides and tacky food stalls and many hobby stalls selling cushions and dolls.

Oddly, some of the food stalls were also hobby stalls, selling things made at home. The local Women’s Institute sold out their lovely cakes very quickly, as did another cake stall selling cupcakes and whoopie pies. But one stall had chocolate art: to be fair, it looked nice, but the choc tasted pretty unpleasant. It’s a bit worrying when you’re being sold something to eat but not told who made the stuff or how to get in touch if your insides take exception to the product.

Only a fiver to get in, which includes the chance to explore the grounds, but let’s hope for better in years to come ... and organisers who check events diaries.
